It’s finally Thursday! I realize that doesn’t have the same ring to it as the ever popular, “finally Friday,” however, for me it is my one weekday off, which means I get to take an actual entire day (if I want) to write! I tried sleeping in, but woke up naturally at 7:30. I NEVER wake up naturally on any other day of the week. Go figure. Since my plan was to sleep in until around 9 or 10, I decided to really splurge and I fixed myself a cup of delicious coffee and jumped back in bed with my Kindle (that’s a tablet, not a person) and decided to watch a couple episodes of Chef’s Table. Now I’m not typically a “reality show” kind of lady, as I get plenty of reality in my every day life, but occasionally I like to watch something that I know I’ll realistically never be able to do. I’ll never be a chef, so watching how they do their magic, is impressive. Chef’s Table, if you’ve never watched, spends each episode profiling a renowned chef. We are talking renowned chefs from all over the world. If you love food and love a great story, then I highly recommend it.
Once I completed a few episodes, I was starving! Duh…I jotted down a few ingredients that I would need to make a few interesting dishes, put my favorite (and most comfortable) writing clothes on, read my daily devotions by Max Lucado (which was awesome today…The Answer to Arguments…gotta love that title), grabbed my laptop, my pen and journal, sunglasses, keys and bottled water and headed out to find the perfect place to park myself and be inspired. Normally I would head to Lucy’s At The Orchard for an ice tea and one of the best Tuna/Fig/wraps EVER and plunk myself down at one of there charming tables where I have a great view of people, children and the weather! This is Arizona and it is the end of July, so I expect it to be hot. We live in a desert, so no one should be surprised. I will say this…117 degrees should never become the norm. I don’t care if you are half lizard and scorpion, 117 is not normal, nor should it ever be. Thankfully, it never lasts forever. I am still looking forward to some great monsoon storms, but so far, its been very puny. (IMHO).
I thank God daily for who ever invented air conditioning and ceiling fans!
My current project is about a young woman named Olivia. When the story begins, she is studying to take her LSAT’s (which is the test you take in your Junior year of college to apply for Law School). Olivia is in New York City for three days, for the sole purpose of grabbing as much study time as possible before taking her exams at Brooklyn College. The other main character in the story is a young man named Sam Reilly. When the story begins, he is the youngest professor of Astronomy & Astrophysics ever to have been hired by his university. He is a nerdy genius who would rather be researching or teaching than just about anything else. These two meet for one night at the request of Olivia’s brother’s best friend, Jack. You got it…It’s a bit of a set-up/blind-date, doing a friend a favor to help make Olivia feel more comfortable while she is in NYC for the weekend. Have one dinner, good food, nice conversation, maybe take her to a few sights of the city, then you’re done! Sam has more important things to do, but he does have to eat, so he agrees. Olivia has more important things to do, but she has to eat and she wouldn’t mind seeing her parents old friend Mario again at his charming little Italian restaurant. She agrees also. This is where the story starts.
Flash forward five years and you are plunged into the middle of a crisis/tragedy/drama. The story flashes forward and backward to give you their journey in a such a way that it eventually meets the present. How did they reach the present situation? What caused it and how will they get through it? Where do they go from here? What do they learn from the choices that they make and what kind of change did it make in their lives and the lives of those around them?
These are a few of the questions their story will try to answer in such a way that will inspire and challenge us, and will also allow you, the reader to feel the joy and the heartache in equal measures, and come to the realization that life doesn’t always turn out the way we hoped or wanted, but it always turns out the way its suppose to…eventually.
Well, I suppose you know that if I’m writing on my blog, that means I’m not writing on my book…so I must end this rambling of random information and get busy.
Trust in the Lord today, and He promised to see you through.
Much love,
P.Torres
